Applications are being sought for 30 project personnel positions on a contractual basis for a period initially of one year, extendable up to three years based on performance, under the NMHS-funded project titled "Conservation of Threatened Mammalian Fauna of the Indian Himalayan Region Through Scaling Up Long-Term Monitoring, Securing Corridors, and Capacity Building". Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.

The positions are temporary/contractual and will end with the project. Interested candidates must submit their applications, as per the prescribed format provided in Annexure 2, along with self-attested copies of educational certificates, research experience documentation, proof of date of birth, and examination mark sheets.

Those currently employed must provide a 'No Objection Certificate' from their employer. Applications should be sent via Speed Post/Registered Post to the Director, Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata, before the deadline of April 22, 2024, with the envelope clearly marked "Application for the post of RA-III/RA-I/JRF/JRA/FA under the NMHS funded project".

Qualifications Details for ZSI Recruitment 2024

Research Associate-III:

• PhD in Zoology/Wildlife Science / Life Sciences or Equivalent degree from a recognized University.
• Minimum three years of fieldwork in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) focusing on mammals.
• Expertise in using advance tools and methods in GIS, remote sensing, landscape ecology and other wildlife tehniques.
• Experience in study designing and coordinating projects, managing multi-disciplinary project teams, and overseeing field data collection.
• Minimum 5 papers in peer-reviewed SCI indexed & high impact International Journals in relevant field.

Research Associate-I:

• PhD in Zoology/Wildlife Science/Geoinformatics/(with master in life science)/Biotechnology/Conservati on genetics/Genomics/Bioinformatics or Equivalent degree from a recognized University. Or Candidates who have submitted PhD thesis in above subjects are also eligible to apply and will be considered as Senior Research Fellow until the PhD is awarded
• Demonstrated fieldwork experience in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) focusing on mammals.
• Proficiency in spatial, statistical, and ecological analysis using R, Python, and GIS platforms.
• At least 3 papers in peer-reviewed SCI index International Journals in relevant field.
• Out of 5 RA-I one RA-I position is fixed for candidates with specialization in Conservation Genetics/Genomics. Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including next-generation sequencing, and familiarity with various pipelines used in whole genome sequencing (WGS), metagenomics, and metabarcoding

Junior Research Fellow:

• Master's degree with minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Zoology/Wildlife Science/Bioinformatics, Life Sciences, or Equivalent degree from a UGC recognized University
• Minimum 1 year of research experience in conducting field Surveys/Conservation genetics.
• Experience in data collection through basic field techniques viz., camera trapping, sign surveys, questionnaire surveys, and vegetation sampling.
• Knowledge of molecular techniques.
• Experience in using statistical software such as R programs, and statistical data analysis (Species distribution modeling, Occupancy modeling, GLM, etc) as well as in experience in GIS and remote sensing methods.
• Proficiency in scientific writing

Junior Project Fellow:

• Master's degree with minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Zoology/Wildlife Science/ Life Sciences or Equivalent degree from a UGC recognized University.
• Prior experience in field survey and data collection, familiar with molecular genetics tools in conservation biology, proficiency in MS Office, and basic knowledge of statistical analysis

Project Assistant:

• Bachelor’s degree from recognized university with minimum 50% marks
• Minimum three years of experience in accounting and project management.
• Higher degree in Finance/ accounting or management.
• Proficiency working in different accounting software and MS office and Excel.

Technical Assistant:

• Bachelor’s degree from recognized university with minimum 50% marks
• Experience and proficiency in MS Office, data entry, and coordinate for the smooth functioning of the project

General Instructions for ZSI Recruitment 2024

• The interview for candidate selection will be conducted in OFFLINE MODE ONLY at three locations.
• The interview will be held for the selection of candidates in three places: 1. Zoological Survey of India, Headquarter, M-Block, New Alipore, Kolkata – 700 053, West Bengal 2. Northern Regional Centre of Zoological Survey of India, Kaulagahr Road, Dehradun-248001 Uttarakhand and 3. North Eastern Regional Centre. Zoological Survey of India. Risa Colony, Shillong-793003, Meghalaya. The date and time of Interview will be separately communicated to the shortlisted candidates.
• Candidates also have to fill the application through online google form before the last date of application using the link provided in the advertisement provided.
• Candidates for all positions will undergo screening, and only shortlisted candidates will be invited for the interview. Selection will be based on interview performance and merit. Meeting the prescribed qualifications does not guarantee an interview invitation. Any attempt to conceal, misrepresent, or canvas facts will result in disqualification.
• Selected candidates will be posted anywhere as per project requirements and must join within two weeks of selection
