The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), an autonomous institution under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, invites online applications for two positions of Library Trainee at its Bengaluru campus. The traineeship is open to fresh post-graduates in Library & Information Science, with an essential requirement of a consolidated performance of above 60% throughout their academic career.
Desirable qualifications include basic computer knowledge and familiarity with various library automation and management software. The appointment is temporary on a contract basis for one year, extendable annually for a total of five years subject to satisfactory performance.
Remuneration is set at Rs. 30,000 per month, with an annual increase of Rs. 2500 based on performance. The closing date for applications is 29th May 2024. Terms and conditions include age relaxation for certain categories, potential relocation anywhere in India as per institute requirements, and the possibility of written tests to shortlist candidates.

Qualifications Details for IIA Recruitment 2024
- Post-graduate in Library & Information Science (M.L.I.Sc.) from a reputed University/Institution. Final-year students who are awaiting their results may also apply. However, they will need to produce their consolidated/final semester mark sheets during the interview.
- Basic knowledge of computer and working knowledge of any library automation management (Koha, Libsys, etc.), institutional repository software (D Space, E prints, etc.), archives management software (Archives Space, Atom, etc.), research data management software (CKAN, Figshare, etc.) content management software (Drupal, Word Press, etc.). Above 60% academic performance throughout and UGC- NET qualification for lectureship.
Age Limit for IIA Recruitment 2024
- Fresh postgraduates are encouraged to apply online for two positions of Library Trainee. Applicants should be motivated to advance their careers and must be under 26 years of age.
- Age relaxation is permissible to SC, ST & OBC candidates and also to physically handicapped candidates as notified by Govt. of India from time to time.
Pay Scale for IIA Recruitment 2024
- The institute, headquartered in Koramangala, Bengaluru, also has a CREST Campus in Hosakote, Bengaluru, and operates field stations in Kavalur & Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu, Gauribidanur in Karnataka, and Leh/Hanle in the Union Territory of Ladakh. IIA is currently offering two positions of Library Trainee with a monthly consolidated salary of Rs. 30,000, based in Bengaluru.
- The remuneration indicated is a consolidated and is inclusive of all allowances. There will be annual increase of Rs. 2500/- in the remuneration based on satisfactory performance.
