Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is seeking applications from eligible Indian citizens for the position of Director, with appointments made on a regular basis through Direct Recruitment. The salary offered is in Level 14 of the Pay Matrix (Rs. 1,44,200-2,18,200) along with applicable allowances.
The upper age limit for applicants is 58 years, which may be relaxed as per Government of India guidelines. Candidates must possess qualifications such as MD/MS or equivalent recognized by MCI/NMC, MBBS with MPH, or M.Sc./MBBS with Ph.D. from a recognized university, along with substantial managerial experience in handling R&D projects independently. Preference will be given to those with experience in Tuberculosis Research and a minimum of 2 years in Pay Matrix level-13-A or equivalent.
The initial appointment will be for 5 years or until superannuation, with a possibility of a second term subject to review committee evaluation. An application fee of Rs. 1500 is applicable, except for SC/ST/Women/PWD/EWS candidates who are exempt. Shortlisting will be based on eligibility criteria and relevant experience, with preference given to candidates with higher qualifications or experience in the field as determined by the Appointing Authority.

Qualifications Details for ICMR Recruitment 2024
- MD/MS or equivalent degree recognized by MCI/NMC MBBS or equivalent degree recognized by MCI/NMC with MPH from recognized University M.Sc. or MBBS or 'equivalent degree recognized by MCI/NMC’ with Ph.D. from a recognized University in a subject as given
- 5 years in a managerial position and has handled R&D projects independently (viz. Pl or Co-PI of Scientific studies, Head of Research Groups/ Centres/ Institutes/ Laboratories), including experience in Tuberculosis Research and 2 years regular service in the Pay matrix level-13- A or equivalent as amended from time to time
Age Limit for ICMR Recruitment 2024
The upper age limit is 58 years, which may be relaxed in accordance with Government of India instructions. Initial appointment will be for a duration of 5 years or until superannuation, whichever occurs earlier. A second term of up to 5 years or until superannuation, whichever occurs earlier, may be considered by a review committee, contingent upon meeting the eligibility criteria specified in the Recruitment Rules.
Pay Scale for ICMR Recruitment 2024
ICMR is inviting online applications from Indian citizens to fill vacancies at Level 14 of Pay Matrix (Rs.1,44,200-2,18,200) (7th CPC Scale), along with usual allowances applicable to ICMR employees. These appointments will be made on a regular basis through Direct Recruitment, with all India transfer liability under the Council.

Application Fee (non-refundable) of Rs.1500/- (Rupees one thousand five hundred only) is required. SC/ST/Women/PWD/EWS candidates are exempted from application fee. Application Fee is to be paid by candidates through online link given in the application form.
Selection Process for ICMR Recruitment 2024
- In the first instance, all the candidates who fulfill minimum eligibility in respect of age, essential qualifications and essential experience (wherever required) shall be short-listed.
- if the number of such shortlisted candidates is high and it is not possible to call all of them for interview, then the ICMR shall further shortlist the candidates, on the basis of some suitable shortlisting criteria, as may be fixed by the Competent Authority, ICMR.
- Though this may vary from case to case, depending on merits, ICMR generally prefers to call candidates with higher experience in the relevant fields or candidates with higher educational qualification as the case may be and as decided by Appointing Authority
