About Odisha Public Service Commission

The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) is a state government agency in Odisha, India, tasked with recruiting candidates for various state government positions through competitive examinations. It provides advice to the Government of Odisha on matters related to recruitment rules, appointments, transfers, promotions, professional standards, and disciplinary actions.

The commission is responsible for organizing recruitment processes, competitive exams, screening tests, and interview boards for selecting candidates within the state. The recommendations of the Royal Commission on Superior Services in India, 1949, known as the Lee Commission, were incorporated into the Constitution of India as Articles 315 to 323.

The OPSC was established on April 1, 1949, following its separation from the former Bihar and Odisha Joint Public Service Commission. Initially, the Odisha Public Service Commission had three members, including a chairman. The membership was increased to five in 1979 and further to six in 1996.
