North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) is a prominent medical institute situated in Shillong, Meghalaya, India. Nestled on the outskirts of Shillong, often referred to as the "Scotland of the East," NEIGRIHMS commenced its full-fledged tertiary care hospital operations at its permanent campus in Mawdiangdiang in 2007.
Established in 1987 as an Autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, NEIGRIHMS was later recognized as a "Centre of Excellence" by the Indian Parliament.
The institution introduced its MBBS teaching program in 2008, initially enrolling 50 students, followed by the commencement of postgraduate courses in Anaesthesiology, Microbiology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Pathology in 2009.
Over time, NEIGRIHMS expanded its offerings to include PG courses in Anatomy, General Medicine, General Surgery, and Radiodiagnosis and Imaging. Additionally, NEIGRIHMS provides a DM course in Cardiology and offers B.Sc Nursing and M.Sc Nursing programs, with an annual intake of 50 and 10 seats, respectively, through its College of Nursing, which began operations in 2006.
