About KPSC
The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), a government agency of Karnataka state, is primarily responsible for conducting recruitments to various civil services through competitive and departmental examinations within its jurisdiction covering an area of 191,791 km2 (74,051 sq mi).
Initially, Karnataka state lacked a recruitment agency. However, on May 16, 1921, the government established the Central Recruitment Board. It was headed by a commissioner secretary on January 19, 1940, during British rule. Following independence, the Public Service Commission was formed on May 18, 1951, under the provisions of the Constitution of India and Public Service Commission Regulations 1950.
H.B. Gundappa Gowda was appointed as the first Chairman, along with Sri George Matthan and Sri H.M. Mallikarjunappa as Members of the Commission in May 1951. Since then, the Commission has seen 13 Chairmen and 67 Members appointed by the Government, starting with Sri H.B. Gundappa Gowda.
