About - Employees State Insurance Corporation

Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is one of the two main statutory social security bodies under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, alongside the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation. ESIC manages the fund according to the rules and regulations of the ESI Act 1948.

The organization is divided administratively into five zones across India, each headed by a Zonal Insurance Commissioner. Each state has a Regional Office (RO) usually led by an additional commissioner or Director Rank officer.

These ROs are subdivided into Sub-Regional Offices (SROs) covering several districts, each managed by a Director or Joint Director Rank officer. Regional Directors are supported by Deputy Directors who oversee various units and branches, ensuring the enforcement of the Act and its schemes.

ESIC currently has a sanctioned workforce of over 21,000 employees at all levels. Deputy Directors are recruited directly through the Union Public Service Commission of India and through promotions from lower ranks. Subordinate officers are also directly recruited by ESIC in addition to internal promotions.
