Established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) initiative, AIIMS Kalyani was announced in 2014, approved on 7 October 2015, and construction began in 2016. It commenced operations in 2019 along with five other AIIMSs that year.
